BoosterHub Academy: 1.3 Settings—USIO Merchant Account Set-up

A USIO Merchant Account is necessary to accept any form of credit card and ACH payments. If you plan on selling tickets or using BoosterBucks for fundraising, you will need an additional, second USIO account, which is an identical application processes.

To set up your club's initial USIO merchant account:

  • Select Settings on the left navigation bar.
  • Select BoosterHub Settings on the middle menu.
  • Scroll down and click the blue box for USIO Merchant Account.

This account is for your Online Store and Cashier Store (concession stand). When you click the box, an application will come up for your USIO account.

As you begin setting up the accounts, a box will appear that is pre-populated with data from your Settings. Three items to note here:

  1. USIO will reject email addresses longer than 50 characters.
  2. You must use the legal business name on your EIN form for your USIO account.
  3. USIO requires a street address (as opposed to a PO box), so a street address must be used in Settings initially. The address can be updated to a PO box after the USIO application is approved. Use the school address if you need a temporary street address.

When the box is complete, click Create and you will proceed outside of BoosterHub to USIO.  The information you submit to USIO is secure and is not transferred to BoosterHub.

The first portion of the USIO application form is pre-populated with information from BoosterHub. You will need to add certain other information, such as the estimated business start date for your booster club, the phone number of an officer for the business phone number, and your club's website address. If you don't yet have a website, you can quickly create and publish a simple one in Webmaster in BoosterHub.

  •  Settlement Account Information section of the application form: Enter the bank account information for the account into which all of your credit card payments will be deposited. Note that the business name on the account should match the name of your booster club.
  •  Processing Methods and Volume section: Note that BoosterHub does not do transactions with Cards Not Present/Keyed, so that box should remain at “0”.  Also, the estimated Monthly Card Volume must be higher than the estimated Average Ticket Size and High Ticket amounts.
  • Principal/Responsible Individual section: Note that while some personal information of an individual is required, such as birthdate and last four digits of Social Security Number, there is no credit check performed on the individual. There is a name match required under banking laws to ensure that it is a real individual, so make sure the name used is the full legal name of the individual. The Ownership Percentage may remain at “0” since the booster club is a nonprofit.  Also, it is understood that the individuals running the booster club will change over time, so this information is just needed to open the account and will not need to be updated over time.

Once the USIO form is completed and submitted, you will be able to track the application process. It typically takes one business day or less.

The second place you may encounter the USIO merchant account application is if you set up BoosterSTUB Tickets and/or BoosterBucks fundraising, in which case you will use the same process to create your second  account.
